Principal's Message

The Important Thing

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome Back! My name is Mrs. Chrobak, and I am the principal at Hearst Elementary School. I hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer spending time with family and friends, spending a lazy day at the beach or catching up on a good book. I am honored and excited to be a part of the Hearst Community. This year will be a year for continued opportunities for LEARNING, COLLABORATION, and RESULTS.  My hope is that you and your child are as eager as I am to get to the work of continued progress.  I look forward to working with all of you this year.

These are busy times for your students but an important time for me to reiterate some very important information safety/security policies at Hearst. We want the best for your children, but we need your assistance to ensure their safety and security.  Please follow the directives from school emplyees as ther are trying to ensure the safety of all students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in advance.  Together we will make Hearst the school our students deserve!

Safe Drop-Off and Pick-up
Our goal is to provide a safe, efficient method of dropping off and picking up all children at Hearst   . . . With that in mind, PLEASE remember these rules:
1.   The parking lot is CLOSED for drop-off 8:30-8:52 and pick-up 3:30-3:55 EVERY DAY!
2.   Remember that it is extremely dangerous (and illegal) to go around a school bus in front of the school. If you need to park and walk your child to school – do not park on Lamon Ave. and always use the crosswalk.
3.   The traffic is VERY congested at during bus drop-off .  We have had several “close calls” with our students getting off busses.  For this reason, Lamon Ave. will be closed to traffic until ALL busses have delivered students safely. A good suggestion is to either arrive early (8:25 am) or preferably, arrive after 8:40 pm.
4.   The Chicago Police Dept. has notified the school that tickets will be issued to ANY vehicle that is parked on Lamon Ave.
5.   At dismissal, we will supervise the children until 3:55 pm. At 3:55 pm, we will bring the children into the school to wait in the office.
After 8:52 a.m. all doors are locked.  Tardy students must enter the building through the main door on Lamon – Door #1 and stop at the security desk for a tardy slip before reporting to their classroom. After this week, if parents would like to meet the teacher or visit the classroom, they must have an appointment.  For school safety, all visitors must stop at the security desk for a pass before proceeding to any area of the school at any time.  Thank you for understanding.

Teresa Chrobak-Prince

It’s going to be a great year. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you in the coming school year.
